History of the UZ's
In the late 1980s, Toyota was looking to create a new flagship engine for its luxury vehicles. The result was the 1UZ-FE, a 4.0L V8 powerhouse that debuted in 1989. With its aluminum block and heads, hydraulic lifters, and electronic fuel injection, the 1UZ-FE was a technological marvel, producing 250-270 horsepower and 260-280 lb-ft of torque. It quickly became the go-to engine for Toyota's high-end cars, including the Crown, Celsior, and Lexus LS400.

But Toyota didn't rest on its laurels. In 1994, it introduced the 1UZ-FE VVTI, which added Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVTI) technology to the mix. This update boosted power output to 280-300 horsepower and 290-310 lb-ft of torque, making the 1UZ-FE VVTI one of the most powerful and efficient engines in its class.

As the millennium approached, Toyota began working on a new generation of the UZ engine family. The result was the 2UZ-FE, introduced in 1998. With a displacement increase to 4.7L and a new cylinder head design, the 2UZ-FE produced 230-240 horsepower and 260-270 lb-ft of torque. It also featured a revised engine management system and exhaust cam timing chain.

But Toyota wasn't done yet. In 2000, it introduced the 2UZ-FE VVTI, which added VVTI technology to the 2UZ-FE. This update increased power output to 250-260 horsepower and 270-280 lb-ft of torque, making the 2UZ-FE VVTI a force to be reckoned with.

Finally, in 2002, Toyota introduced the 3UZ-FE, the final generation of the UZ engine family. With a revised engine block, cylinder head design, and exhaust system, the 3UZ-FE produced 280-300 horsepower and 290-310 lb-ft of torque. It was used in the Toyota Century, Crown Majesta, and Lexus LS430, and remained in production until 2011.

1 UZ - FE
The 1UZ-FE and 1UZ-FE VVTI are the entry level model to the Toyota/Lexus V8 range, however, these were the most commonly used by the renowned Japanese manufacturer quickly making it well known for its reliability, with many owners clocking hundreds of thousands of Kilometers without major issues
